'Uncorked' sort of 'morphed' out of a tour of New Zealand of 'The Pirates of Penzance', as a happy accident.
Peter Cupples (of 'Stylus' fame) was filling in for Simon Gallaher (as well as holding the record for the oldest 'Frederick' ever) and we got to chatting about the early rock'n'roll touring days. Finally we decided to 'have a jam', which turned into a bit of an occasion for the cast and crew. Immediately we discovered that while we were poles apart in style etc, we shared many common interests, and found a nice challenge in performing each other's material.
Later, after a couple of experimental gigs at the Moorilla Estate Winery in Hobart, we decided that everyone else was doing unplugged, so we would be 'Uncorked'! The show is huge fun and we go from the lightness of a summer breeze, to a long and lonesome highway in the space of a few bars.
From the early days of Cups and I on two acoustic guitars, the show has evolved to add the ever present, and ridiculously talented, 'Deakie' (Peter Deacon from the Foster Brothers) on keys and bass, and more recently the many and varied sounds of Steve Todd on percussion. General reaction to the show so far has been terrific and much more is to come.
An album is in the making, recorded at the beautiful 'Oasis' studios in the Tweed Valley. Keep your eye on this space for more updates, but it should be out in the not too distant future.
We have also started the ball rolling with adding a film crew and documenting the show as a sort of travelogue-come-gig guide to the beautiful wine growing regions of the Antipodes. Sort of a two fat ladies slash Billy Connelly thing, only instead of 'Two fat ladies' we'd be 'Two old rockers'.
Cups is even a dab hand at cooking, any ideas for a five minute segment? So far we've come up with 'Cupples Kitchen' or 'Captain's Table'. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Until then...

'Why bottle it up when you can leave it UNCORKED'!
